Griffith Park Field trip

ASTRONOMY FIELD TRIP
TO GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY

DATE: Sunday July 10, 2011

DEPART FROM SBCC: 9:15 AM (the bus rolls at 9:25 AM, so get there BEFORE then so you can get loaded in time). Meet at the EBS loading dock, which is between the SBCC bookstore and the EBS building (just in front of the bookstore) . OK to park on Campus WITHOUT a permit.

RETURN TO SBCC: Between 6 pm and 7 pm (depending on when our tour is over, traffic, etc).

COST: $40.00 to be paid at the SBCC Cashier. Make checks payable to SBCC or use your credit card.

HOW TO SIGN UP: Sign up with the SBCC cashier. Seats are given out on a “first come first served” basis as they are paid for. Let them know you are paying for the IMAX/Griffith Observatory Field Trip. Once the bus is full, that's it, so sign up now. Space is limited.

Timing of Sign-ups: Class members ONLY from 6/20 - 6/24. Open to class friends/relatives/SBCC Astronomy Club Members beginning 6/27

WHAT TO BRING: Bring food for dinner and/or money to buy lunch/dinner at the Imax/Griffith. Also, be sure to bring a sweater or jacket for on the bus. Bus AC can be variable! OK to bring a backpack. The bus will NOT be available during the time we are at IMAX or Griffith. All food items will need to be stowed away in your backpack (Griffith does not allow food into their exhibit halls but you may eat at the outside tables).

ITINERARY: (Copy will also be provided to everyone on the bus.)
Will leave at 9:25 AM from EBS at SBCC - anyone may park ON campus near the building WITHOUT a permit.
Griffith: Arrival before noon.
Meet at the "Event Horizon" Theater (middle level) at Noon to see a short introduction to Griffith Park/Observatory..
DO YOUR REQUIRED WORKSHEET, eat, & look around all 3 levels 12:30 PM - 3 PM -
Griffith also has a cafeteria/cafe, but it's a bit pricey but great quality. Salads and hot entree available + snacks.
Great Gift Shop for Astronomy on same level as the Theater and Cafeteria.
Meet at Pendulum at 2:55 PM to get tickets from Fred (we will go in a different way and earlier than is announced over speakers at Griffith)
Meet Bus after Planetarium Show
Back at SBCC about 6 - 7 PM depending upon traffic and other considerations.

FIELD TRIP WAIVER FORM: All students will be required to turn in a waiver form. Click here to download the field trip waiver form. If you are under 18, you will need to get a parent or guardian's signature in advance (so print out in advance and get the required signatures beforehand). Due in class by Thursday, July 7, 2011.

REFUNDS:
There are no refunds for late cancellations unless we are able to find someone to take your spot.
